MULTICULTURAL COOPERATION FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND RAW MATERIALS, ORGANIC AGRICULTURE AND HEALTHY FOOD
on July 7 and 8, 2011 at the Hall of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia, Ljubljana.

This year Slovenia is celebrating 20 years of independence. Ten years ago the first international SLOBIOM conference was held in cooperation with the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia. All conferences were focusing on renewable energy and sustainable development in general. In 2007, in view of the progress in research and technology, we envisioned the possibility of achieving the conversion to renewable by 2030. Now, 25 years after the accident in Chernobyl, we are faced with the Fukushima disaster, hopefully ending the idea of a global nuclear renaissance. Japan and Germany are marching ahead with new energy policies. Since April 2011 we have the International Renewable Energy Agency IRENA in Abu Dhabi. To promote and spread renewable energy and sustainable development multciultural and international cooperation is very important.
On the first day of the conference, companies, institutions, universities and individuals are presenting their achievements and plans in renewable energy, raw materials, organic agriculture and healthy food.
For the second day of the conference, we are inviting agriculture, environment, energy and science ministers, members of parliaments and mayors from Slovenia and abroad, or their delegates to participate to a roundtable to discuss the importance of sustainable development for the very serious situation we are facing with the economic, social and environmental as well as political destabilisation all over the world, focusing on the repowering and redeveloping process.
Opening speakers are Mag. Blaž Kavčič, President of the National Council of the Republic of Slovenia, and representatives of Slovenian ministries. Among others, honourable guests are Lojze Peterle, our first Prime Minister and today EU MP, member of the Commission for the Environment, Health and Food Safety and Prof. Emeritus Ernest J. Sternglass, Director of Radiation and Public Health Project, New York.
